Not every adventure starts at a trailhead. Sometimes it starts in the driveway on a Friday afternoon.
Maybe you’re headed to the river, a state park, a ranch, or somewhere you’ve never been before. That’s what we like about urban overlanding. It doesn’t have to mean a huge expedition or a rig loaded with every accessory imaginable. It can simply mean having a vehicle that works for everyday life and is ready when you decide to get out of town.
That’s where Build It Now. Use It. comes in.
A lot of people think they need to finish the entire build before taking the trip. More lights, more storage, more suspension, more gear. Before long, the planning becomes bigger than the adventure.
We see it differently at Hawkes. Start with the life you actually live. Where do you want to go? Who’s coming with you? What kind of trips are you really going to take? Then build around that.
Maybe that means better storage, a rooftop tent, lighting, a power setup, or suspension that handles rough roads a little better. Sometimes it’s even simpler. A cooler, a couple of chairs, and a free Saturday can be enough.
That same thinking is why the INEOS Grenadier fits so well into the conversation.
The Grenadier can handle everyday life during the week, then head for ranch roads, campsites, hunting leases, and backroads when Friday rolls around. For many owners, the real fun starts after they get the keys.
What should I upgrade first? Do I need suspension? What rack makes sense? What recovery gear should I carry? What camping setup will I actually use?
There isn’t one right answer. A ranch rig may need something completely different from a family camping setup or a long-distance overland build.
That’s the point! Build it for your life!
And you don’t have to do it all at once. Take the trip. Use the vehicle. Figure out what works, what doesn’t, and what would make the next adventure easier.
A weekend on the road can teach you more about your rig than hours of scrolling through someone else’s build.
That’s really what urban overlanding is about. It’s making adventure fit into normal life. Your vehicle can take you to work during the week and still be pointed toward the Hill Country by Friday evening.
Most of us don’t have months to disappear into the wilderness. But we might have Saturday. We might have a long weekend. We might have enough time to leave New Braunfels and wake up somewhere completely different the next morning.
Those trips count.
Whether you’re building a Grenadier, outfitting a van, adding a rooftop tent, or making your current vehicle more adventure-ready, start with the trip.
At Hawkes Outdoors, we help with Grenadier upgrades, suspension, lighting, racks, storage, recovery gear, rooftop tents, power systems, camper installs, custom upfits, and more. But the goal isn’t to build the most complicated rig in the parking lot.
The goal is to build something you’re excited to use.
Because the gear is only part of it. The real reason is getting outside, taking the trip, and making a few stories worth telling.
Your Adventure. Your Terms.
